First Aid Treatment for - Poisoning

Firstly ensure the poison that hurt them cannot hurt you.  It is important to identify the poison and if possible obtain the COSH date sheets for the poison, or the information from the bottle or container from which the poison was taken.

Poisons can be eaten, inhaled, injected and adsorbed (through the skin).

What to do - Seek professional advice

  • Take care with poisons and vomit
  • You must call the EMS quickly and follow their instructions, they may suggest inducing vomiting in some cases if you are certain of what has been injested.

  • Salt water can make someone sick and there are tablets designed to induce vomiting
  • Poisons can be Inhaled, Ingested, Absorbed, Injected
  • A poison can be either Corrosive or non Corrosive
What not to do

Do not induce vomiting when a corrosive chemical is involved - always seek professional advice
